Presidential Unit Citation

Everett Frederick Larson was born in Stamford, Conn. on September 3, 1920. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve on January13, 1942 in New York City, and served until killed in action on Guadalcanal. He was assigned to 1st Platoon "F" Co., 2nd Battalion, 5th Regiment, 1st Marine Division. He was awarded the Silver Star, the Purple Heart, the Presidential Unit Citation and the Asiatic Pacific campaign ribbons. Private Larson's citation reads in part:

"For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with the First Marine Division during action against enemy Japanese forces on Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands on October 8, 1942. With utter disregard for his own personal safety, PFC Larson braved the intense fire of the enemy to swim the Matanikay in a heroic attempt to rescue a wounded comrade."
